Welcome to our candidate focused weekly blog. This week we are focused on dreaming big and not being afraid to take chances to find a career that makes you want to jump out of bed each day. Here’s to waking up with a smile each morning.

It’s very rare to find your “dream job” right out of the gate. Most of the time, it’s a journey that can take many years. At the end of the day it’s these 5 common jobs that get us to the one that makes every step worth it.

So how exactly do you get started? First…remember to dream big and grow your goal into the unthinkable! Second…map out what success looks like to you. Third…don’t be afraid to ask others for an informational interview so you can gain insights about how others “made it.”

Speaking of journeys, if you find that you no longer enjoying the path you’ve taken, don’t be afraid to change your goal. A great example is this recent story about two women who started in the same situation, but ended up taking very different roads over the course of 10 years. Which one would you rather be? I know that I would rather take chances to further my career.

One more final point! When you do end up reaching your goals, make sure you don’t self sabotage your own success. What do I mean by this? Well, have you ever had one of those moments where you’ve reached your goal and then everything starts to go wrong? It may be that you’ve reached what’s called your “upper limit,” and you are unconsciously introducing a bit of “reality” to bring your happiness down a notch. To counter this, try resisting the urge to shrug off compliments and “lean in” to your excitement.Good luck with your search!
