I am often asked by those visiting Veterans Service Organizations or other places that recognize the sacrifices of our veterans, what is the meaning of the Missing Man Table often seen.

The meaning of the items on the Missing Man Table

The table is round – Showing our everlasting concern for our missing

The tablecloth is white – It symbolizes the purity of their motives when they answered the call of duty.

The single red rose – Is displayed in a vase reminding us of the life of each of the missing, and the loved ones and friends of these Americans who keep the faith, awaiting answers or their return.

The vase is tied with a red ribbon – Symbolizing our never-ending commitment and determination to account for our missing.

The slice of lemon – Is on the bread plate, reminding us of the bitter fate of those captured or missing in a foreign land.

A pinch of salt – Symbolizes the tears endured by those missing and their families who continue to seek answers.

The Bible – Represents the strength gained through faith, to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.

The glass is inverted – Symbolizing their inability to share in this toast.
The chairs are empty- They are missing.

They shall not be forgotten!
