Science, technology, engineering, mathematics jobs aka STEM jobs are becoming a hot commodity for jobs seekers.

Growing interest in STEM fields have had a positive impact in the job market. While the average salary for all occupations is around $47,000, the  Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the average salary for people in STEM fields in 2014 was about $81,000. STEM jobs are expected to outpace other fields and increase 18.7% by 2020.

Like all fields, there are some areas that are better than others for those fields. NerdWallet recently posted some of the top metro areas for STEM jobs by analyzing 354 of the largest metro areas looking at size and income for the STEM industry.

Huntsville, AL lands first place with it’s sciences and technology environment. Known as the Rocket City, it’s a great place for aeronautics because of it’s rich history in space flights and the aerospace industry. It also boasts a healthy STEM industry averaging high salaries in a relatively low cost area of living.
